ABOUT OPEN MIND TANZANIA
Open Mind Tanzania (OMT) is a youth-led cum youth-focused Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It deals with opening minds of people, youth in particular through active participatory advocacy and capacity building in areas of legal, social, and economic empowerment to enable them (youth) become masters of their development and main contributors to the well-being of their society, country and the world at large.
The organization was established in June 2006 with the mission of ensuring that people have a sound understanding of youth aspirations and development needs, such as the need for business skills and entrepreneurship development; the need for Employability skills, access to decent work, human rights, civic rights and duties, democracy and good governance, economic issues and the legal assistance.
OUR CORE OBJECTIVES
- Imparting entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to youth and women in groups or as individuals to help them to utilize the available opportunities in their localities especially in agriculture that they can use to create jobs and employ themselves.
- To engage, unite and promote community members from different grounds to participate in various productive projects such as environment, agriculture, and alternative energy which will eradicate poverty as well as wealth creation in their respective projects hence solving the critical problem of unemployment by engaging youth within society programs.
- To help create, promote, uphold and maintain upright and respect values of professional, entrepreneurship, academic, moral, and social image of the members and general public, also to deal with peoples’ problems in welfare such as education and medical aspect. Much more, the NGO will promote the education of the vulnerable groups.
- To provide civic, legal, and human rights education to the community especially the youth to open their minds, for that it will ensure that the youth get different social and economic assistance which will help in the implementation of the initiatives started by the government towards the attainment of Tanzania Development Vision 2025.
- To promote youth-led advocacy for participatory processes in the development of policies that affect access to education, finance, investment, health, and employment.
- To sensitize the general public especially youth in using legal services to obtain their legal rights. In connection to that, responding to individuals’ legal complaints by giving guidance and counseling consigning law about legal problems especially in legal and human rights, also preparing documents for court presentation. Thus, providing legal aid services.
- To do anything within the ambit of the law and human needs for advancing the objectives of protecting human rights and ensuring wise use of the law in safeguarding people’s rights.
