About Us

Open Mind Tanzania (OMT) is a youth-led cum youth-focused Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It deals with opening minds of people, youth in particular through active participatory advocacy and capacity building in areas of legal, social, and economic empowerment to enable them (youth) become masters of their development and main contributors to the well being of their society, country and the world at large.

The organization was established in June 2006 with the mission of ensuring that people have a sound understanding of youth aspirations and development needs, such as the need for business skills and entrepreneurship development; the need for Employability skills, access to decent work, human rights, civic rights and duties, democracy and good governance, economic issues and the legal assistance.

Our Mission

To create a society that best promotes the economic, social, and moral rights and responsibilities of all individuals through empowerment programs, training, advocacy, researches, and legal assistance.

Our Core Value and Belief

We believe that the world can be changed into a better place to live if each of the able persons becomes ready to install an Alternative Way of Thinking and join us morally and materially to fight towards alleviating poverty, protecting human rights, and achieving health in body and spirit. From our belief and value, our dictum and motto is ‘Alternative way of thinking’.

Our Approach

We believe in a realistic approach that a starving person must be given both food and hoe. We are therefore committed to working towards achieving sustainable changes.

What We Do

Open Mind Tanzania main activities are training, research, advocacy, and legal aid at selected public interests. OMT is amongst the leading youth-led and youth-focused development organizations in Tanzania in creating an enabling environment for improving the livelihoods of youth and women including fostering their active participation in development processes

Youth and women entrepreneurship and agribusiness

Imparting entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to youth and women in groups or as individuals to help them to utilize the available opportunities in their localities especially in agriculture that they can use to create jobs and employ themselves.

Youth policy, budget and tax analysis engagements and Media advocacy

To engage, unite and promote community members from different grounds to participate in various productive projects such as environment, agriculture, and alternative energy which will eradicate poverty as well as wealth creation in their respective projects hence solving the critical problem of unemployment by engaging youth within society programs.

Educational enhancement, inclusion and environment

To help create, promote, uphold and maintain upright and respect values of professional, entrepreneurship, academic, moral, and social image of the members and general public, also to deal with peoples’ problems in welfare such as education and medical aspect. Much more, the NGO will promote the education of the vulnerable groups.

Legal aid and human rights

To provide civic, legal, and human rights education to the community especially the youth to open their minds, for that it will ensure that the youth get different social and economic assistance which will help in the implementation of the initiatives started by the government towards the attainment of Tanzania Development Vision 2025.

Call To Action

Taking action means we are exerting our influence on the world to get the results and outcomes we want. It is the creative expression of our being. Without taking action, we are leaving things to chance and allowing our minds to wander.

Kuku Kizimba Program

Kuku Kizimba Program is an green innovative agribusiness program in partnership with Tanzania Indigenous-Farmers' Association (TIPA) a network of local farmers with more than 4,500 local farmers/beneficiaries network.

Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights for Youth and Women (SRHR)

This project is implemented in partnership and through the support of MARIE STOPES Tanzania. The project trains youth and women on their sexual and reproductive health rights.

Iringa Avocado and Horticulture Agribusiness Project

This is a community engagement green agribusiness program which is in implementation at Rungemba ward in three villages i.e. Kitelewasi, Itimo and Rungemba in Iringa.

National Youth Budget and Tax Analysis

This is the mini project under ‘Youth Employment Initiatives Dare-es-Salaam’ (YEID). The activity is conducted in partnership with Policy Forum.

TADIO – Tanzania Development Information Organization

This was a pilot project assignment to train digitalization training and mentoring to 30 community radio stations marketing officer in helping the communities to access information.

Bagamoyo Business School Program

With support from Sustainable Preservation Initiative (SPI), Open Mind Tanzania (OMT) is expecting to start a new project named, “Business School Program in Bagamoyo Tanzania” at Kaole, Dunda ward in Bagamoyo district, Coast Region.

Open Mind Financial Network (OMFN)

OMT championed for the establishment of the village banking model (VICOBA) project aimed at building the culture of saving and providing credits to young entrepreneurs.

DIGITAL BRAIN Promoting Education, Inclusion and Nutrition

This project that we do in collaboration with Digital Brain College at Mbezi Beach for Kidomole village in Bagamoyo and Malolo village in Kinondoni.

Youth Employment Initiatives Dar-es-salaam (YEID) Project

YEID is a program under the program Decent Work and Labour Rights in East Africa (DWLR). It is a joint partnership program between youth organizations in Tanzania i.e. Open Mind Tanzania (OMT), Youth for Africa (YOA), and Tanzania Youth Vision Association (TYVA) supported by Forum for International Cooperation.
